Before the first tile
A calmer project starts with a few good questions.

Describe your project
Write down the room, surface, tile material and dimensions, and whether the area gets wet. Photograph the space and keep the tile packaging and installation information together.
Check the installation system
Collect the instructions for the substrate, waterproofing where needed, setting material, tile, and grout. Resolve conflicting directions with the manufacturers or a qualified installer before work begins.
Plan before buying tools
List the layout, edge details, movement joints, cuts, and cleanup needs. Wet areas, structural concerns, and unfamiliar substrates deserve advice from a qualified installer. This is a planning guide, not a validated installation procedure.
These introductory resources are not sample-tested installation procedures. Always use current manufacturer instructions for your materials and tools.
